Pahadon par kaun nahin jaata . Kabhie maidanon ki bheesan garmi se nizaat pane ke liye to kabhi barf ke girte phaahon ke beech apne dil ko thodi thandak pahuchane. ESMN April Posts : Gulzar, Mehdi Hassan, Blog Anniversary and more

So what happened on Ek Shaam Mere Naam during last month. After completion of Annual Musical Countdown for the year 2012 it was time to discuss a bit of poetry and literature.

Gulzar and Vivek Ranade combined to produce a magical Calendar for the year 2013. Vivek Ranade's superb pics (related to the ways we use our good old newspaper) were given a new dimension by Gulzar's poetry. If you have not seen the calendar do see it here in my article Raddi Ka Akhbaar Aur Gulzar with my take on it.



I was avid reader of noted Bangla writer Bimal Mitra. His simple writing style and interesting plots always made me finish his novels in a few days. But recently when I read his book Aur Ek Yudhisthir , it disappointed me. If u want to know why read on..




Mehdi Hassan is always a class act when it comes to Ghazal singing. Incidentally while tuning to a cricket commentary quarter century ago I first heard Meer's soulful Ghazal Dekh to Dil ki Jaan se uthta hai..Ye Dhuan sa kahan se uthta hai. Read my memoirs of the ghazal along with meaning of this great ghazal in my article Cricket, Radio Aur Mehdi Hassan  :Dekh to Dil ki Jaan se uthta hai. You will be surprised to know that this Ghazal was used in one of the masterpiece of Hindi Film Cinema Pakeezah. Do you know who sang this version ? It was Naseem Bano Chopra.

Mujhe Jaan Na Kaho Meri Jaan : The darker side of Geeta Dutt guru Dutt relationship.

Guru Dutt and Geeta Roy were both great personalities in their own right. But even great personalities do flounder on their personal front. It is a well known fact that Geeta Dutt's career in playback singing was in dire straits when she was offered Anubhav by Kanu Roy.

Geeta Dutt showed great depth in singing all  her numbers from the movies. But the pain which comes in her voice when she croons Meri jaan mujhe jaan na kaho meri jaan is to be heard to be believed . A question simply comes to a listener's mind whether all the pain and humiliation she faced in his martial life came to the fore while singing this song written by Gulzar.




Mera Dil jo Mera Hota..How Kanu Roy used to narrate his tunes?

Kany Roy used Geeta Dutt in four of his songs. Out of these four songs, two were written by Gulzar Sahab. Though Mujhe jaan na kaho meri jaan is immensely popular among Gulzar & Kanu Da's fans, Mera dil jo mera hota is not heard that much. Kanu Da has used minimal instruments to focus on Gulzar's flowing poetry in the song. The use of sitar along with Geeta Dutt's naughty voice is just a pleasure to behold for any listener.

And what can be said of Gulzar when he mesmerizes us with these beautifully written lines..

Suraj ko masal kar main, chandan ki tarah malti
sone ka badan le kar kundan ki tarah jalti
is gore se chehre par aaina fida hota
mera dil jo mera hota..

In one of his interview Gulzar has recollected how Kanu da used to narrate the tune of the song in his own typical way.

Kuchh geeton ka canvas film ki paridhiyon se kahin door phaila hota hai. We kahin bhi sune jayein, kabhie bhi gune jayein we apne ird gird khud wahi mahoul bana dete hain. Isiliye situational songs ki tulna mein ye geet kabhie boodhe nahin hote.Gulzar ka film Seema ke liye likha ye nagma ek aisa hi geet hai. Na jaane kitne karod ekaaki hridyon ko is geet ki bhaavnayein un udas lamhon mein sukoon pahucha chuki hongi.

Bas Ek Chup si Lagi Hai...Hemant Da voice with Gulzar words

Whenever the name of Gulzar & Hemant da comes together the first movie which comes to mind is Khamoshi. How can one forget those immortal songs like..Pyar ko pyar hi rehne do koyi naam na di, tumhara intezaar hai pukar lo and Wo shaam kuch ajeeb thi.

But in general we forget about another score in which these maestro came together. The film was Sannata which was released three years before release of Khamoshi . Most of the song of the film were sung by Lata ji. But my favourite among them was a song sung by Hemant Da.

Hearing even the mukhda of the song was enough to get in that melancholy mood. A song with simple  yet effective words with minimal instrumental and soul stirring voice of Hemant da you can't help but mumble along..

Pancham da ek aise sangeetakaar the jo sangeet sanyojan men nit naye prayog kiya karte the. vaise to pancham, kishor aur gulazaar ki tikadi ke jaane kitane hi geet sattar ke dashak ke mere sarvapriya geeton men rahe hain par unake kuch geet aise hain jo unamen prayukt dhunon aur taalon ki vajah se yaadon se kabhi door nahin hote. aaj 1978 men bani film 'ghar' ka aisa hi geet yad aa raha hai jiska mukhada aur saath men bajte 'madal' ki anoothi tal aur usake saath spainish gitar ka adbhut sanyojan geet ko ek alag hi pahachaan deta tha. ye geet tha svar kokila lata mangeshkar ka gaya nagma tere bina jiya jaaye na.... to isase pahle ki main aap ko ye bataoon ki pancham da ne is geet men naya kya kiya tha, ye jaan lena jaroori hoga ki aakhir madal vaadya yantra hai kya?

madal bharat ke anya paaranparik tal vaadyon ki tarah hi dikhta hai par hai ye nepal ki bhoomi men panapa vaadya yantra, jiska vahan ke pahadi log lok geeton men prayog karte the. bharat ke uttar poorvi ilakon aur uttar bangal men bhi iska prayog hota raha. dholak aur pakhavaj ki tarah hi madal ko donon taraf se bajaya jata hai par inki tulna men madal chhota aur halka hota hai. isake bade vaale chhor se neeche ke sur nikalte hain jabaki chhote vaale chhor se oopar ke.

pancham ko is nepaali vaadya yantra se parichit karane ka shreya nepal ke madal vaadak ranjeet gazmer ko jata hai jinhen pancham 'kaanchabhai' bhi kahate the. pancham da ko is vaadya yantra se kitana lagaav tha ye isi baat se spasht hai ki unhonne kaanchabhai ko apani aarkestra ka sthayi sadasya bana diya tha.

vividh bharti par pancham ki sangeet yatra vaale karyakram men aasha v gulazaar ji se is geet men kiye ge apane prayog ke baare men baat karte hue pancham ne kaha tha..

ye badi majedaar cheez hai. jis sur men gane ki pankti khatm hoti ho, usi sur men... usi sur ka tabla baje. jaise hamare yahan tabla tarang hai to ham logon ne koshish ki ki use madal tarang men bajaya jaaye...
yaani jis tarah tabla tarang men ek saath kai tabalon ko alag alag suron men laga kar ek saath bajaya jata hai vaisa hi yahan madal ke saath kiya gaya. madal tarang ko dekhna chahate hon to yahan dekh sakte hain.


pancham ne is geet ke aaranbhik tees sekend men jo gitar ki dhun pesh ki hai use jab bhi main sunta hoon ise baar baar sunane ka dil karta hai aur fir geet ke pachasaven sekend ke baad se pancham ki madal par ki gai kalakari (jiska oopar jikra kiya gaya) sunane ko milti hai aur man pancham ko unki bemisaal pratibha ke liye dad diye bina nahin maanta. geet sunane ke baad bhi geet ka mukhada aur pancham ki dhun ghanton dilo dimaag par apana asar banaaye rakhati hai. oopar ki rikarding men aapane lata ke saath kishor ko bhi ek alag tarike se gaate suna. aaiye ab sunte hain lata ji dvara gaya ye nagma.

chalte chalte pancham aur unake madal prem se juda ek aur kissa batata chaloon. 1974 men ek film aai thi 'ajnabi'. pancham ko usake geet record karne the. par hua yoon ki theek usi waqt film jagat men saajakaron ki hadatal ho gai. intaralyoods men sangeet sanyojan men aarkestra ka hona tab ek aam baat thi. ab gana to rikard hona tha to kiya kya jaaye. par pancham to aakhir pancham the. unhonne ek raasta dhoondh nikaala. pancham ne geet ke antre men bajte madal ke ridam yaani tal ko intaralyoods men bhi barakaraar rakha aur saath men jod di tren ki aavaaz aur gana ho gaya supar hit. aap samajh rahe hain na kis geet ki baat ho rahi hai? ji haan ye geet tha lata v kishor ki yugal aavaaz men gaya nagma ham donon do premi duniya chhod chale...

Annual Music Countdown 2010 Sartaaz Geet: Dil to bachcha hai jee...

To bhaiyon evam bahanon vaarshik sangeetamala ke dhaai mahine ke safar ke baad vakat aa gaya hai sarataji bigul bajaane ka. yahan sangeetakaar v geetakar ki vahi jodi hai jisane pichhale saal bhi milkar sarataj geet ka khitab jeeta tha. vaise to pahali paanch poyadanon ke geet apane aap men kamaal hain par pahali poyadan ka ye geet har lihaaz men alahada hai. baki poyadanon ke geeton ko oopar neeche ke kram men sajaane men mujhe kafi mashakkat karni padi thi. par pahali sidhi par virajamaan ishkiya film ka ye geet kabhi apani jagah se tas se mas nahin hua. is geet ke bolon ka asar dekhiye ki saal poora hua nahin ki geet ke mukhade ko lekar ek nai film rileez bhi ho gai.


ji haan is saal ek shaam mere naam ki vaarshik sangeetamala ka sarataj banane ka gaurav haasil kiya hai gulzar ke likhe, vishal bharadvaj dvara sangeetabaddh aur rahat fateh ali khan dvara gaaye geet dil to bachcha hai ji ne... is geet ke baare men naseer bhaai (jin par ye gana filmaya gaya hai)ki tippani dilachasp hai. naseer kahate hain..
"gane ka kaam hai film men mood ko kriet karana. jo jazabaat us waqt haavi hain film men, usako rekhaankit (underline) karna. mujhe nahin maaloom tha ki ye gana film men background men hoga ki main ise gaoonga. ek tarah se ye achchha hi hua ki mainne gaya nahin kyoonki isase usase us aadami (kiradaar) ke dil ke khayalat aur zahir hue."

gulzar ke baare men naseer kahate hain 
"aadami utna hi javaan ya boodha hota hai jitana aap use hone dete hain aur gulzar bhaai dil se naujavaan hain. bahut kuch aisa hai gulzar men jo aadami unse apeksha nahin kar sakta aur yahi ek sachche kalakar ki nishani hai."

sach, kaun nahin jaanta ki pyar karne ki koi umr nahin hoti. aur ye bhi ki prem men pad jaane ke baad hamara mastishk man ka das ho jata hai. par un sarvavidit ahasason ko gulzar itani nafasat se geet ki panktiyon men utarte hain ki sunkar man thaga sa rah jata hai.

bataiye is 'ai ve' ki anubhooti to ham sab ne ki hai. kisi ki bevajah ki bakavaas ko bhi mantramugdh hote hue suna hai. bol kya raha hai vo sun nahin rahe par usaki aavaaz aur adaen hi dil ko lubha rahi hain aur man khush.. bahut khush.. hua ja raha hai. par kya kabhi socha tha ki koi geetakar prem men hone vaale in sahaj se ahasason ko geet men dhaalega?

gulzar ki kisi jazabe ko dekhne aur mahasoos karne ki adbhut kshamata to hai hi par saath hi unake binb bhi bade prabhavashali hote hain.mukhade men dhalti umr ka ahasaas dilane ke liye unka kahana daant se reshami dor katati.. nahin...man ko lajavab kar deta hai.

sangeetakaar vishal bharadvaj ne is geet ka sangeet ek retro ki feel deta hai. aisa lagata hai ki aap sath ke dashak ka gana sun rahe hain. vaadya yantron ke nam par kahin halka sa gitar to kahin tali ko sangat deta hua haaramoniyam sunaai de jata hai. rahat fateh ali khan ko aksar sangeetakaar vaise geet dete hain jisamen soofiyat ke saath oonche suron ke saath khelne ki rahat ki maharat istemaal ho. par vahin vishal ne isase theek ulat si paristhiti vaale (jhijhakte sharmate fusafusaate se geet men) men rahat ka istemaal kiya aur kya khoob kiya. to aaiye pahle sunen aur gunen ye geet

isi ke saath vaarshik sangeetamala ka ye saalana aayojan yahin samapt hota hai. jo saathi is safar men saath bane rahe unka bahut aabhaar.

Annual Music Countdown 2010 Song No. 7: Sureeli ankhiyon vaale, suna hai teri ankhiyon se...

Ankhiyan bhi kya surili ho sakti hain? sach kahoon to kabhi aankhon ke surilepan ko jaanchane ki koshish ki hi kahan mainne? shayad usake liye Gulzar jaisi shayarana tabiyat ki jaroorat thi. haan ye jaroor hai ki jab se Gulzar ne aankhon ke liye is visheshan ka istemaal apane likhe is geet men kar diya hai tabse main bhi ek jodi surile nayanon ki talash men hoon. dekhoon dhoondh paata hoon ya nahin :)!

Annual Musical Countdown 2009 : Song no. 23 : Gulzar, Pritam aur Abhijeet jab chahein Khuda Ki khairiyat...

Vaarshik sangeetamala ki 23 vin position par ek nayi tikadi virajamaan hai. Yahan sangeetakar Pritam hain par gayak Neeraj Shridhar nahin, Gulzar hain par Vishal Bharadvaj nahin aur to aur Abhijeet ka sath dene ke lie Alka Yagnik bhi nahin maujaood. Nirdeshak Priyadarshan ne Gulzar aur Pritam ko ye soch kar anubandhit kiya ki film ke geet aise hon jo jinamen aaj ke sangeet ki jhalak to ho par sath men bhavanaayen bhi ho jo dil ko chhu sake.

Shahatoot ki shakh pe baithi Meena bunti hai resham ke dhage : Gulzar on Meena Kumari...

Kuchh log gham ki duniya men jine ke liye bane hote hain. Meena Kumari ki shakhsiyat bhi kuchh aisi hi thi. Agar Gulzar ne Meena ji ke kavi man ko tatolane ki koshish ki hai to sangeetakar Khayyam ko Meena ji ke dil ki vyatha ko unaki aavaj ke madhyam se nikalane ka shrey jata hai.



Khayyam dvara sangitabaddh album I write I recite EMI/HMV mein, Meena ji ne apani dil ki manobhavanaon ko badi bareeki se apane svar men dhala hai. Is album se li gaee unaki ye ghazal mujhe behad pasand hai. Aasha hai aapako bhi pasand aayegi
