#10. Bulla ki Jana Main Kaun ?

Sangeet ki pakad kabhi kabhi itti gehri hoti hai ki usse upaji bhavnayein kisi bhasha ki muhtaaz nahin hotin. TV Music channels idhar udhar karte huye jab pehli baar is Punjabi soofiyana qalam ki goonj kanon pe padi to barbas remote par hath thithak se gaye, Guitar ke notes aur Rabbi Shergil ka apne astitva ko talashti aawaz dil ko choo si gayi!

Bulla! ki jaana maen kaunN……?

Zindagi ke un ruke thahre lamhon mein kitni baar hum sochte hain
apne bare mein…
apni pehchaan ke bare mein…
aur is duniya mein aane ke apne maqsad ke bare mein…
aur hum pate hain ki humne apne aap ko baant rakha hai is pehchaan ke naam pe
Kabhi desh humari pehchan banta hai to kabhi koi shahar...
Kabhi hum apni pehchaan ko dharm ke aaine mein dekhte hain to kabhie bhasha ke...
Par kya in chote chote hisson mein baant kar hi zindagi jiyi jaa sakti hai?
Hum jante to hai ki in band khanon (closed boxes) mein apne aap ko samet kar jeena sahi nahin phir bhi inse nikalne ki koshish nahin karte!
Shayad hum ladna nahin chahte, samaj ke banaye huye in khokhle dayron aur deewaron se…aakhir confirmist ho kar jeena itna aasaan jo hai…

18 wi sadi ke soofi kavi Bulle Shah ke likhe huye is song ke bare mein gayak Rabbi Shergil khud kehte hain
Bulla Ki Jana is all about us not knowing who we are, of thinking of life in terms of boxes, until we are enlightened. And then, you realise how meaninglessly you’ve compartmentalised life,”
Is song ke lyrics mujhe mil nahin rahe the. Aur choonki lyrics Punjabi mein hain unki English translation dhoondhna bhi ek mushkil kaam tha. But my effort was worth kyunki is khoj ke baad maine is soofi qalam ko dil ke aur kareeb paya. Aasha hai 10 wi paydaan ka ye qalam aapko bhi kuch sochne pe majboor karega.

Bulla! ki jaana maen kaunN Bullah! to me, I am not known ?

Na main momin vich maseetaan Not a believer inside the mosque
Na main vich kufar diyan reetaan Nor a pagan disciple of false rites
Na main paakaan vich paleetaan Not the pure amongst the impure
Na main andar ved kitaabaan, Not in the holy Vedas
Na main rehnda bhang sharabaan Nor in opium, neither in wine
Na main rindaan mast kharaabaan Not in the drunkard`s craze Niether awake
Na main shaadi na ghamnaaki Not in happiness nor in sorrow
Na main vich paleeti paaki Neither clean, nor a filthy mire
Na main aabi na main khaki Not from water, nor from earth
Na main aatish na main paun Neither fire, nor from air,is my birth
Bullah!, ki jaana main kaun? Bullah! to me, I am not known?

Na main arabi na lahori Not an Arab, nor Lahori
Na main hindi shehar nagauri Neither Hindi, nor Nagauri
Na hindu na turak peshauri Neither Hindu, nor Turk or Peshawari
Na maen bhed mazhab da paaya Secrets of religion, I have not known
Ne maen aadam havva jaaya From Adam and Eve, I am not born
Na maen apna naam karaaya I am not the name I assume
Avval aakhir aap nu jaana I am the first, I am the last
Na koi dooja hor pehchaana None other, have I ever known
Main thon na koi hor siyaana I am the wisest of them all
Bulla Shah! khadda hai kaun Bullah Shah! Do I stand alone?
Bulla, ki jaana maen kaun Bullah! to me, I am not known

Na main moosa na pharaun. Neither Moses, nor the Pharaoh
Na main jaagan na vich saun. Neither I am awake nor in a sleeping daze
Na main aatish na main paun Neither fire, nor from air,is my birth
Na main rehnda vich nadaun Nor do I live in Nadaun
Na main baitthan na vich bhaun Not in stillness, nor on the move
Bulla Shah! khadda hai kaun Bullah Shah! Do I stand alone?
Bulla, ki jaana maen kaun Bullah! to me, I am not known

Hey! I really like this song. But there's this other song from the same album, "Tere bin saanu soniya" that I like more. And I completely missed it on my list. Too bad for me. I'm waiting to see what other songs match on both our lists. :)

hum soch rahe the ke kya kabhi iss gaane ka number bhi aayega ya nahi :D....waise iski halki se zhalki....hamare radio blog mein bhi suna ja sakta hai ...;)
I love this song....waqai...iske bol dil ko choo jaata hein..
Maze ki baat ye hai ke...oon dino bhi log bahut kuch jaante the...lekin karne ki himmat shaayd har kisi ko nahi thi...kyunke...koi bhi kisi bhi cheez ko badalne mein taqleef hee mehasoos karta tha ....change is always painful for some people...but I believe if its for good then why not ;)
bahut khoob....

cheers

Hi there ...I got hooked instantly to the song while changing channels (just like sbd. in the comments up there)back home in Thailand but did not follow up...until I recently ran into this song in one of the Indian stores in Adelaide, Australia, I had to google it. And Thank you so much for the translation. Your comments are inspiring too. Will visit your blog more often. btw asking you for the permission to use the translation and lyrics in my blog and will translate into Thai when time permit me to do so.

Offcourse Simmi you can do that! Good music should reach to as many people as possible.

Infact I was planning to write this post in Hindi (devnagari script )today with some more facts related to this song. If you like Rabbi then take a look at this post also...
